Who are the people behind Variety Finishing?
Courtney and Ana Parr are the founders/owners of Variety Finishing. This dynamic duo was established with their marriage in 1996.
Courtney Parr is a finishing carpenter by trade. He is creative and community-focused. He brings passion to everything he does.
Courtney intuitively sees the big picture in every opportunity. He understands that a home renovation is much more than a physical change; it is a reflection of the homeowner’s personality. A beautiful remodel—one that delights—touches on aspects of mind, body and spirit. It brings life to an idea that functions well and contributes to the well being of everyone who lives or gathers in a refreshed space.
It is because of Courtney’s holistic approach that he not only invests in understanding his client; he also strives to build a solid team, where every member fits and feels ready to bring their best to any project.
“Being aware of creation who we are, whose we are, and why we exist is a light that gives us an insight into how to navigate ourselves in this sometimes dark and confusing world.”
Ana is our Client Care Specialist. She was born in Romania and has lived in Canada for 30 years.
Ana entered the construction industry after a varied career, mainly in retail. Her life experience brings perspective, compassion, and creativity to her approach, as she makes every effort to make your experience comfortable and exciting.
Ana earned her blueprint reading and estimator certifications from PHBI, Edmonton, in 2012. She develops her knowledge and skills in construction by jumping in with a hands-on, can-do approach to new challenges.
I spent the last 6 years on many different job sites and I’ve even worked on the tools. I have learned that any woman can achieve great things in the industry and can do great work.”
As your first point of contact, she is your guide throughout the renovation or build process.
She approaches every home improvement project with a goal of helping clients to understand the process of the renovation. Since she is in charge of estimating, she truly does have the “big picture” in mind when she works with home owners.
Ana enjoys her work of bringing her client’s vision into focus. She is dedicated to helping clients understand the construction process, from quote to completion. As a certified construction estimator and blueprint reader, she strives to do the best job of bringing all the project elements together, communicating with the client all the way.
Ana begins by collecting information about the client and sharing her knowledge with them about the process and who we are at Variety Finishing—our standards, quality workmanship, and end results. Her goal is to make sure the client understands the quote she presents.
Once a contract is in place, Ana will meet with the new client to explain more in depth details such as project schedules, work scopes, material design options. She wants clients see her as a point of contact throughout the process, and to be comfortable communicating with her through each phase.
Courtney and Ana also have a passion for personal development. They especially love to mentor young people. Their non-profit organization, Voice Divine, is designed to help adults and youth.
It reflects the values of Variety Finishing:
“Happy people work well; a company should care about its employees.” – Courtney
“Every problem has a solution. That’s for sure.”
Luis Duenas exudes the positive vibe that Variety Finishing values most. He is a dedicated entrepreneur and skilled painter who brings many talents to his work with joie de vivre.
It’s no exaggeration to say that Luis has painting in his blood. At the age of 14, he began to work in his father’s painting business. He learned every aspect of the painting business, and never really stopped growing in that field.
At 25, Luis ventured away from the family business into the banking world. During his successful career there, he became certified as a financial planner, and soon became a bank manager. He values those years for the knowledge and experience he gained understanding business and finance.
To meet him, you might not believe that this friendly, gentle person had an eight-year career as a professional boxer; Luis believes that all learning builds a person’s talents.
Luis came to a turning point where he reevaluated his direction. He decided to return to the construction business. At first, he worked for large companies, where he managed sites and was, as he says, “very hands-on in the construction world.”
He continued to enjoy painting. He specializes in spray painting, especially laser design on walls.
Product is important to Luis. He enjoys trying different products and maintaining a working relationship with different suppliers. He is constantly keeping up with the industry. He loves being able to suggest the best product for every job. His talent and vision make him an excellent member of the team.
He moved to Canada when he was 11 years old. He and his family lived in Manitoba for many years. Luis has called Alberta home since about 2009. He loves being active outdoors and spending time with his daughter.
